Kid-Friendly Bar/Restaurant, or Kid-Friendly Bar and then Restaurant - in the Mission, or nearby?

Friends are coming in from out of town (just found out), dining with them tomorrow night. Son is I believe 6 or 7. This summer we took him to the Orbit Room - no problem having a cocktail there first with a child before moving on to dinner at Zero Zero Pizza - and he's not a fussy eater at all. They often take him to pubs (with full bars, ala Phoenix) (and Phoenix is an idea) that serve food (Houston area). I'm thinking: Hog & Rocks, or Schmidt's (but Schmidt's is only beer & wine, and the dad specifically wanted cocktails)? Maybe H&R first, then Schmidt's? or maybe Limon Rotisserie for both? We will be on the fly, so probably can't make reservations. I'm blanking on other cocktail-y places that would serve to kids that we could eat at too, or even pre-dinner drinks (but kid friendly), and then casual for dinner. Doesn't have to be highly innovative or spectacular food - another time I took them to that burger/wine place on Valencia between 21st and 22nd (or 23rd?) - can't remember name - it used to be Watergate, and then Senses. but again, only beer & wine too - just trying to give a sense of type of place for dinner.

any other ideas? we will all be on public trans, so don't want to travel too far from cocktails to dinner.

Thanks!
