After nearly ten years, I was back at My Khe Que in San Jose's Little Saigon for lunch this week.
Banh It Ram, $3.95, were fun. Deep-fried crusty mochi disks topped with a steamed blob of very chewy shrimp-filled mochi served up with some dilute fish sauce and fresh jalapeño slices for dunking.
Mi Quang, $8.50 (small) was a disappointment. Instead of a thinner liquid, the moistening came from a heavy curry gravy that weighed down everything too much. Pork belly was chunks rather than slices, only one shrimp, and no quail eggs here. The garnishes were pristine with banana blossom, lettuce, mint, fresh jalapeño chile, shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, and lime wedges.
