I ran into Yoshi at Trader Joe's today, so I assumed that was a sign from on high that I should have my birthday dinner at Khao Sarn tonite...
The Commodore and I shared his favorite Miang Kum appetizer, with a sharper dresssing than our usual at Dok Bua...Lovely!
We shared an order of Khao Soi, made with fried tofu as opposed to chicken, for the birthday girl...I had ordered this at a CH dinner awhile ago, and only had a mouthful...This was wonderful; thin, 1/4" egg noodles, tossed ith a spicy, peanut-y curry broth, topped with bean sprouts, and fried crispey noodles, as well as big cubes of tofu...It's a dish that could satisfy an unadventurous Thai palate, because of the peanut flavor, but it really worked as comfort food for this Thai hound....It's sometimes served as a soup, and TC was last seen eating it with a spoon.
We also had the last item on the page of seafood offerings, a reddish-oyster curry with shrimp(I would get squid next time) tosssed with lime leaves, green beans and several kinds of peppers. Filled the veggies quotient, and was light and spicy...Without TC, I would have asked them to amp the heat up, but I was happy.
He had his favorite dessert there, their Thai custard, a sweet and sour pumpkin(I think) custard served over sticky rice with coconut cream and a powder of shredded shallots, that brings all the sweetness into amazing focus.
