Khana Peena on Solano in Berkeley

jane | Oct 17, 200202:55 PM     7

My husband and I just noticed and tried Khana Peena Indian restaurant on Solano the other night. I'm not sure if it's a new place, but I don't remember having seen it before.

Has anyone else tried it? The atmosphere and service were great, but the food wasn't and we won't be back. Also portions were miniscule. I got the vegetarian Thali plate and all of the items tasted like water from a rusty old hose. My husband got the chicken tikka masala which was decent, but only had three small pieces of chicken in it. Indian is our favorite cuisine and this is the first disappointing meal we've ever had.

The fun aspect of the meal was the chance to sample sodas imported from Indian. Limca is a lemon soda and Thumbs Up is a regular cola - both are bottled by the Coca Cola Company. I'm a huge fan of Coca Cola Light from Mexico and love the chance to try sodas from different areas so this was fun.
