Grabbed a crabmeat salad roll after the sandcastle competition on Revere Beach Sat. and it was quite good. Their buttered & grilled rolls are still the best, lots of crabmeat, fries were the usual, pretty tasty for $10.95. Everyone else had a clam roll that I'm not sure succeeded (bad batter maybe), hot dog and grilled cheese (the latter two for kids) but they had to take it to go so not sure. I know my clam experience at that Kelly's hasn't been great the last couple times.
Got dinner at the Eastern Standard bar Sat. which was dead at 8PM after people headed to the game but picked up later. Friend started with 3 jumbo shrimp then had that great chicken dish I've had before w/ mushrooms and foie gras, subbed fries for spaetzle (lord knows why). I had the mustard glazed salmon w/ buttermilk mashed potatoes (had to leave off the green beans that day). Excellent, one of the better salmon dishes I've had recently ($23). Friend's creme brulee was great and my nectarine peach crisp was okay, both $7. Glass of gruner vetliner was tasty and refreshing, bartender was fairly on top of things, I really like this place.
Got something off the lunch menu for the first time at Sorella's in JP, decent cheeseburger club w/ fries. Hard not to get one of their crazy pancakes or omelettes but this was fine. Quite slow at 12:45 on a Mon. Cooled off later with a coffee frappe at JP Licks and soaked up the AC til it was time to go back to my stifling place.
BTW, had a less than great start to Rest. Week. Called Smith & Wollensky to make a reservation and he goes "Oh, restaurant week" with an obnoxious tone of voice. I joked and said have you gotten 12 million calls already but he wasn't having it. I gave my name and he said he had me on file and never lightened up. What a putz, no need for that and we'd obviously spent the big bucks there before. Hope the actual experience is better.
