Had some visitors in town last week, here are a few notes on where we ate:
Joe's of Kansas City, 47th St location. Visited around 4 pm so no line, a first! Burnt ends on special so I was pleased to share those around. Good fries, spicy red beans and rice. Everyone loved their sandwiches ~ pulled pork, sliced brisket. Always eat to much here.
Jack Stack, Plaza location. Several days later. Food was good, not great, and aggressive up selling was annoying. Burnt ends nowhere as good as Joe's. Lamb ribs excellent
Rye. Hit and miss. Steak tartar outstanding, pork chop good but thin. Deviled egg app to cold to taste, liked the pork rinds. Shrimp and grits was overly smoky and salty, really quite awful.
PigWhich, Local Pig downtown. Good sandwiches, burger and pork tenderloin, house made chips, all good. Bain mi not consistent with my last one ~ soft pickled vegetables, too little filling ratio to bread.
Lydia's, brunch. Pasta trio very good, tender, silky handmade tagliatelle with pest outstanding, ravioli thick and plain. Sunday sauce special seemed dull. Antipasto table uninspired, soup greasy. Tiramisu on dessert table moist, not soggy. Excellent service. I was sorry that the sweetbreads listed on the online brunch menu were not present.
Spin, Main Street location. Salad with pizza combo way overdressed but pizzas, minestrone and Ceasar all very good.
