Katz's Deli: sad decline

Howard_2 | Jun 20, 201903:33 PM     44

This past week I had a sandwich at Katz's. What I discovered was very sad.

First of all, the "rye bread" looked nothing like any kind of REAL rye bread any of us have eaten.

The mustard was an unknown quantity. It did not seem to be Gulden's, which to me is the quintessential mustard for a good NYC deli.

When I brought these things to the attention of the manager, she did not seem to have any understanding of what I was talking about.

And as for the prices...OK, I understand that Katz's is supposed to be an "experience", but the prices were way out of line for the quantity of meat in my sandwich (and that of my companion).

Henceforth I will recommend to friends visiting the city that they avoid Katz's.
