Hubby got to Katz's this morning at 7:30 so we could finally try these bagels that have been called the best in Boston. It was a very good bagel, and yes, the best I've had in Boston. The one I tried had the top a bit overcooked, giving it a hard and unpleasantly crunchy texture, but the rest of the bagel was very good. Hubby said people who say get there early weren't kidding- even at that time of the morning the selection was not extensive, with no poppy bagels (his favorite.)
For lunch we braved the congestion of Everett and headed to Bread & Co, inspired by Itaunas's recent post on Brazillian Bakeries. I liked the fresh fried cheese pastel. The cheese had a bacony taste (although I didn't see any bacon). The fresh and warm pão de queijo was excellent. I've only ever had it at Magic Oven in Framingham and I liked this version better. Hubby went gaga for the caramel donut, which was filled with a layer of creamy and almost gritty dulce de leche. He said the coffee was very good. The staff was very friendly even when dealing with a steady stream of customers. They have some tables so you can sit and eat.
