Katy's Dumpling House opens in Naperville

CJT | Feb 3, 200912:08 PM     18

Just yesterday, I ate lunch at Katy's Dumpling House in Westmont and the owner was sitting in the dining area nearby. I jokingly asked why he was not wearing a red shirt, as he did when the place first came to the attention of Chowhound diners and he seemed not to remember (maybe a language problem more than memory).

This morning's Naperville Sun had an ad for the grand opening of Katy's Dumpling House in Naperville so I stopped in to check it out. There was the same guy (the owner) and he was wearing the red shirt again! But this time he was not cooking or running the register.

Katy's took over the space formerly occupied by Jin's Mandarin in the shopping center just west of Naperville North High School, where Binny's Liquor store and City Meat Market are located (south side of Ogden Avenue between Benedetti Drive and Royal St. George). The sign outside still says Jin's, but Katy's owner told me there will be a new sign there in a few days. Menu will be the same as in the Westmont location, but the space is much larger and slightly less spartan. This is good news for Napervillians who formerly drove to Westmont to enjoy the noodles and dumplings. It also offers another good Chinese lunch and dinner option in the area. Also located in this shopping center is Indian Harvest, offering a totally vegetarian Indian menu.
