...but let's not get carried away. Okay, i like Kasadela, it's a mellow sake place w/ some dishes that are far superior to what's available at other izakayas in the neighborhood. And, i'm happy it's thriving.
That said, i think some of the reviews of the place on this board are getting a little hyperbolic. I went there twice in the past week, and while both visits were pleasant, some of the items on the menu were hit&miss. On the positive side, the mackeral sashimi is delicious: a nice big portion for only $5.50. Black cod is tasty too, albeit a little pricey (10 dollars for a very small piece). Fried oysters and age dashi tofu were good too.
But there were some big misses: the "jumbo shrimp sauteed w/ garlic" is awful. It's not jumbo shrimp: it's medium (at best) shrimp, in a sweet goopy sauce that tastes like something leftover from Empire Szechuan.
And that chicken skin (Tori kawa, i think) that people have raved about here? Disgusting rubbery grizzle. Like chewing gum made from chicken.
As i've said, i hope this place stays afloat as it has its charms, but i wish the menu was a bit more consistent.
