Hello KARMA - (goodbye Breadline?)

Rosco | Feb 3, 2004 12:16 PM

I usually end up at Breadline for lunch as I'm in the Farrugut West area but decided to try Karma. WELL....
Very good. In addition to the Paninis (7.50) which have top notch ingredients, they offer 5 mezze (4.95), pates (8.50)as well as 4 different meat/seafood platters and 4 different cheese platters (11.95). The salads are enormous, in particular, the house salad is mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, walnuts and goat cheese (5.95). The house wines: Cotes-du-Rhone and Chardonney (5.95) are excellent, though they offer many others by the glass or bottle. Also a good liquor selection. The space is very nice and spacious with a nice bar (smoking) and a lounge area with a few couches in addition to the tables. The ambience is welcoming, friendly, and relaxing. Excellent sound system is usually playing world-beat. Not sure where the cheeses come from, but the Dolce Gorgonzola is the freshest I've tasted. Oh yeah, good coffee drinks too. I don't know why, but I've never seen a lot of people there (they've been open 3 weeks). The ordering at the register thing seems out of character as they appear to have more staff than they need. At any rate, it's a nice change of pace from the Breadline at a comparable price.
