I have been to Yasuda, Kuruma, Gari, 15 East, Ushiwakamaru, Soto and countless other sushi bars and consider myself a bit of an "afishionado". Went back to Kanoyama last night (not many places open on Sunday) and had one of the greatest omakase meals I can recall. Freshly ground real wasabi and aged soy sauce complemented a variety of fish that kept surprising me. Fresh bamboo shoot sashimi was great. Abalone served with a sauce made of its liver. Plum paste and yuzu peel as a condiment to sushi. Black fin toro, akamutsu, sakuradai, kinki, umazura, katsuo, isaki, tairagai and kinmedai. Great sake and Japanese beer selection. Very un-Japanese chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Absolute perfection.
