Almost forgot, I took the whole family over to Kang Suh on Friday night. Everything was really great. The meats were a bit less prodigous than I'd envisoned but we certainly didn't need it. Kim Chee was good but not exceptional. The rest of the panchan were extremely good quality and even my in-laws who hate spice in any form dug in and had the time of their lives!
We got Kalbi, Bulgogi, and Spicy Squid for the grill. The Squid was my personal favorite and watching them curl up into tight, spicy cigars with the raised cross-hatching was a sport unto itself.
I ordered a Gobdol Bibimbap for everyone to sample and it was a huge hit. It wasn't the best I've had but it certainly was a crowd favorite. Scaping the stone bowl is usually the best part but for some reason nothing would come off on this one. Maybe the stone wasn't hot enough.
Pa Juen was the first I've tried. Luckily I'm a big scallion fan as there were bunches of 3/4 length stalks in there(I guess it's the nature of the beast). I think it turned off the out of town gang but I chowed away happily.
I was only confused about the little casserole of totally bland eggs that came along. I guess it's to sooth the fires on the palate?
Hosts were VERY friendly and made the whole fish out of water thing very comfortable. The waitstaff themselves were friendly enough but not that helpful.
Thanks to all of the Chowhounds that led me here as it was an out of the park HIT!
