Kang Kang Food Court, Alhambra

I just found this Chinese take-out/restaurant tucked away into a strip mall on the corner of Garfield and Valley. At 7:45 on a Wednesday night, it was packed with happy diners. You order off the menu at the counter or pick from a long steam table. I ordered the 3 item combo for $3.70, which came with steamed rice and a little container of soup. There were about 25-30 choices on the steam table and all looked good and very fresh. I ended up with spareribs in black bean sauce, steamed Chinese broccoli, and spicy bamboo shoots with pressed tofu. All were quite good and tasted like food my mom would have cooked at home. Portions were extremely generous and even after eating more than my fill, I have about half left over for dinner tomorrow (as a point of reference, the 3 items filled the styrofoam container and rice came in a separate bowl). There was a big banner proclaiming that they've added Hong Kong-style chow meins, wonton soups etc. to their Shanghainese menu. But the items on the steam table looked Taiwanese-influenced. Very convenient, cheap, and fulfilling. If you're eating in, the place looks bright and clean, with an A rating. I'll be back for sure.
