In need of some natural health food supplements. This lunch time, I head over to First Markham Place (one of a few plazas that opens on this Thanks Giving Day ) to get them.
Being told there are a few good value-for-money places in the food court offering more than decent nosh, I decided to kill two birds with one stone by having a quick casual lunch there as well! The places I was told that's worthy of trying were a Japanese Ramen place, a Vietnamese Pho place as well as a Malaysian place. Unfortunately, to my dismay, ALL three places were closed!
Noticing the above captioned place, with a sign proclaiming they offer ' authentic' Hong Kong style noodles, having a long line at the ordering desk, I kept my fingers crossed and decided to give it a try.
I was glad I did!
I ordered a ' Braised Cantonese Chiu-Hau style Beef Brisket and Tendon Lo-Mien noodles '. The topping for the noodle was very authentic tasting. The beef morsels, chewy yet very tender. The sauce has just the right amount of savory and sweetness balance. Noodles were perfectly chewy and al-dente, with almost zero alkaline water smell detected. The accompanying soup has a nice aroma and taste profile. Result of using traditional ground toasted Bonito powder for the broth rather than a lot of cheap 'corner-cutting' outfits using soya sauce and chicken powder!
I was so satisfied, I also ordered a ' Spicy Penny-Hot Sauce shredded pork Lo-Mien ' to go. The quantity of the savory and spicy topping was very generous. Taste was delicious and appetizing. Noticing the sweetness component was just a touch lacking, I chatted with the chef about this minor short-fall. Hopefully, the next time I try, end results will be even better.
Will definitely be back to try the Won-Ton and 'Phoenix City' style shrimp dumplings.
