I'd written about how satay started in Kajang (known as Malaysia's "Satay Town") on another thread http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/892504
Dinner was at one of the most popular satay spots in Kajang this evening - Nyok Lan's Satay Kajang, Restoran Malaysia - which started back in 1971 by three siblings: Choi Nyok Lan, Choi Wai and Choi Yok Lin. The crowd there this evening was overwhelming - mainly Chinese clientele wolfing down a traditional Malay food.
Nyok Lan's chicken satays were tender, marinated in a turmeric-heavy blend of spices, and totally skinless - a departure from Malay-style satays where chicken skin were often skewered along with the lean meat to provide additional flavour.
The satay dip here were no different from those served at other major Kajang satay spots - peanutty, topped with chilli oil.
Nyok Lan also serves Muar-style otak-otak - and a very good rendition, too, I must add. Must-not-miss!
