Kababish II -- Jackson Heights

Went to Kababish II yesterday, their 3rd day in business. A previous message (#48985) described their take-out operation as "slow and chaotic". I couldn't agree more and hoped that the new sit-down restaurant would be better. Unfortunately, not yet. And, it's not full "sit-down". You go to the counter to order -- no menu, just a list of about 25 items on the wall -- and later go back to pay. If you're lucky, they bring you the food. I tried to order. Of my first 4 choices, they had none. Then the order taker spent 10 minutes on the phone. Finally, she told me which few items they did have. We had a chicken curry, a chicken biryani, a chicken kabab, a nan and a roti. They didn't have much that wasn't chicken. No beef kababs, no lamb chops, no haleem. After a long wait, they brought out a roti, then a little later a chicken curry, which they first tried to give to several other tables, then some plastic utensils. When we were 3/4 done, they asked if they could clear our table. We said we were still waiting for half our food. A short discussion ensued in the open kitchen, then a little scurrying about and everything else arrived. Maybe they need to take lessons on service from Mina!!!!

The food was all great. Spicy chicken curry, the biryani had big chunks of chicken with prunes and lemons, the roti and nan were fresh. I've tried a wider variety of items at the Kababish take-out, where I've never had a less than perfect meal. My only quibble, besides the service, is that the portions in the sit-down are miniscule. I don't mind the styrofoam bowls, but there is little value, except for the kababs. I guess I'll have to go back to the original Kababish and eat in the park.
