Jun Sushi in Vancouver: cheap and cheerful

Jun Sushi in Kits is our takeout favourite. The owners are very nice, the sushi is ready when they say it will be, and it tastes good. They even have free delivery within 5 km for orders over $15 but their food is so reasonable we rarely hit that mark for two. We have also never dined in.

Yesterday we had four friends dropping by so I called ahead at 6 pm to place an order for pickup at 7:30. When I arrived in the resto at 7:25, the last couple of rolls were just being assembled, so they'd timed it perfectly. We ordered 22 rolls with some repeats, all but four of them with cooked ingredients in deference to the pregnant pal in our party -- kampyo, spinach, beef teriyaki, avocado, shrimp, dynamite, inari, veggie, yam tempura, tuna and negitoro.

I boiled up a bag of edamame and we tucked in. There were at least two above average volume eaters, but we still had five pieces left over at the end because no one could finish them. Everyone commented on how fresh the rolls tasted.

The grand total for this feast? $62.53, GST included. They recently revamped the menu and added some special rolls we haven't tried yet, and they also raised some of their prices a wee bit (comparing to a May 2005 menu, I saw a few things that had gone up by 25 cents) but the rolls don't seem to have gone up. Great value for solid sushi -- check it out if you're in the hood (closed Mondays) and they even have 10% off for one-day advance orders.
