What is the most time-efficient way to matchstick/julienne (are those two terms interchangeable?) carrots?
I need to julienne/matchstick about 1.5 lbs of carrots each week to use in salads throughout the week. I don't think my knife skills are good enough to do it both quickly and safely, so I was looking at other tools that might be easier.
I know I could just buy the matchstick carrots prepackaged, but that is more expensive and I'd like to save the money if I can find a time-efficient way to make them myself.
Here are the options I found:
1. Julienne blade for food processor (http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DLC-8...)
These received mixed reviews on Amazon. Some people say they just shred instead of cut into nice strips. Additionally I don't currently own a food processor and would
need to buy one, making this the most expensive option. I'm not sure how much I would use the food processor otherwise.
2. Julienne peeler (http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Kitch...)
This received good reviews and is pretty cheap. Does anyone use something like this?
3. Mandoline (http://www.amazon.com/Swissmar-Borner...)
Are there any other options I'm missing? What do you prefer?
