I had dinner with friends at Jules recently and was very impressed. While the menu is pretty limited (salads, sandwhiches, quiches and grilled meat/fish/poultry), I had an outstanding steak frites, which also came with a green salad and ratatouille. The steak was pretty thin, but perfectly cooked (rare) and, at $16.95, one of the best values around. And despite being thin, it was enormous! One friend also had the steak frites, while the other had grilled salmon ($17.95), also served with frites, green salad and ratatouille. I guess standardizing the sides is one way for them to keep their food costs down... They've also cut corners on the decor, which is kinda "modern warehouse" in style.
Sadly, the wine list is pretty dire. We had a pleasant DuBoeuf Beaujolais (not what I owuld have chosen for my steak but...the choices were limited.) I forget the exact price, but it was very reasonable.
If this place were closer to my office (it's at Spadina and Richmond), I'd be there for lunch all the time!
