Where's the juice?

When I lived in Downey, Ca, I ate most of my lunches at a drive in called Petes Patio, where they had a wonderful Pastrami sandwich. My question is, when they made the sandwiches, they would take the Pastrami out of an aujus and put it on the grill, dip the french roll in the juice, and put the sandwich together with mustard and a dill pickle, I am trying to duplicate it here in my home, since I can't go back to Ca to get one and I don't know what the juice is! I have tried beef stock and it's just not the same. Anyone have an Idea?
