Judging melon ripeness

Lanyboy | Sep 2, 2005 02:58 PM

I have been very disappointed in melons this year. My favorites are watermelon, honeydew and cantoloupe.
I have been taught to select watermelons with a creamy yellow patch on one side. Still I haven't had any really good ones this season. Any suggestions on how to select any of the three when I am in my local store or farmer's market?
