After passing by J's for several months now and saying we ought to try it, we finally did today.

The place is very small and tidy with interesting posters of Mohammed Ali, Josephine Baker, etc. They serve breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday. The breakfast menu has about 9 items on it and the lunch has three ( Fried Chicken Wings, Meatloaf, and Salmon Croquettes). Today they had specials of Pork Chop and Pumpkin Pancakes.

I had the Chicken Wings with sides of Cabbage and Yams. The order consisted of four very large wings in a good batter that were very tasty and satisfying. The yams were sliced and seasoned with cinnamon and sugar, delicious. The cabbage was served with diced red and orange bell peppers which gave them an interesting flavor. I think I prefer my cabbage plain, but there was nothing wrong with it this way. It came with a piece of Corn Bread that also had some red bell peppers in it. I liked the corn bread a lot.

Bonni had the Pumpkin Pancakes, two very large pancakes with two eggs and two slices of perfectly cooked crispy bacon. The pancakes were excellent with a good pumkin flavor. They were served with a pitcher of warm syrup and a pitcher of warm clarified butter. I thought the butter was an wonderful touch and wonder why more places don't serve it this way.

There was a sign on the door about Peach Cobbler and table signs about Hush Puppies, but we were too full to try either. Maybe next time.
