J's Pot of Soul Report

BIg Larry | Feb 27, 2006 02:35 PM

Had the pleasure of dining at J's Pot of Soul in Hayes Valley for breakfast this weekend.

I had a breakfast consisting of two buttermilk pancakes, two eggs, two sausage patties, two pieces of thick cut bacon, and potatoes. The pancakes were not very good. They were almost tough and chewy. I'm a big pancake fan and these just didn't do it. The eggs were fine. The sausage patties were overcooked and a little dry. The bacon was fine. The potatoes cooked with peppers and onions were very good.

Another diner in my party ordered a breakfast similar to mine, and the two other diners ordered the fried chicken wings. The wings are what I will get the next time. You get 4 or 5 big wings, fried up nice and crispy with a choice of two sides. The wings aren't greasy at all and the meat is nice and moist. With a little hot sauce they were about perfect. The sides I tried, veggies sauteed in garlic (carrots and broccoli) and mashed potatoes and gravy, were both good.

The place is fun as well. Nice people doing the serving. Good pictures on the walls. I will for sure go back.

It's cash only though.
