JRS&A Original Jerk Center in Bed Stuy

I freaking love this spot on Fulton St & Tompkins.

Sometimes there's a steel drum firing away outside, sending a beguiling smell of smoke far down the street.

Inside, because of the cold, the whole place is steamed over (it's like walking into a jerk sauna). Besides the typical combination of Caribbean mains and sides, there's also two trays, each with a pile of blackened jerk chicken. I usually get a small order over rice and beans. They'll offer to put gravy on your rice-- and you would be stupid to say no. I've had the oxtail stew and goat curry... both had deep, rich flavors. Get a lot of the jerk sauce, it's not too sweet, with a nice kick. Also get some of the Bajan hot sauce for the rice and curry. Only $6-- they add plantains and salad too.

The mac & cheese is also really good for this type of place-- al dente in a way other places usually miss, with a thick, cheesy crust. It's even better with more jerk & hot sauce.

A lot of other jerk spots still on my list. I've heard good things about a place on Franklin Ave called 3D's, but the one time I walked by on a Saturday it was closed... would love to hear more recs.
