I'm not really doing Tiny Stories About Beer on my food/drink website any more, but this one rekindled a bit of inspiration.

Joseph James Imperial Smoked Porter, with vanilla and aged in bourbon barrels, 10% ABV. There's no date on the bottle, and I'm guessing this has been in my cellar since about 2016.

The aroma is rich, with oak, vanilla, and caramel notes. There's a touch of smoke and candied allspice as well. Longer draws bring out light leather and earth undertones.

The first sips are heavy, and waves of sweetened oak and black licorice wash over your tongue with a whirlpool of frothy, airy spice. The bourbon soaked oak washes up to you and lends a bit of bite, but there's no hoppy 'edge' left to follow any longer. Black strap molasses and vanilla swirl and chase each other down your throat, and a faint wisp of smoke is all that remains as you exhale.

Lovely....
