Doing an informal potato chip review and Jose Andres Potato Chips are the best chips I've ever tasted. What's your favorite? Would love to try

And now looking at the background on Andres chips, turns out that San Nicasio makes them.

I filed this post (San Nicasio isn't available in Canada - at least I haven't seen them), but on a recent trip to UK I found them on a Supermarket shelf (Waitrose), so picked them up.

At first taste I thought them excellent - but mot convinced of potentially 'best in world' status. However, the scientist in me wanted a test, so I put them out at a family reunion (ages 17-70), along with a variety of other brands. Nobody else was aware of my 'test'.
The result: the San Nicasio chips disappeared before any other brand was half gone!
        Eating is Believing!

And I brought a bunch back - they're also excellent for packing around wine - my ancient madeiras made it back intact!

        Thanks for the recommendation.

Shearers, from Brewster, Ohio is a very close second.

It's odd and endearing that potato chips are one of the last regional products that maintain a strong foothold in US supermarkets. I don't know offhand how many brands there are, but there seems to be major regional brands just about everywhere I travel.

Sure, I like the JA potato chips, but I didn't notice they were better than many others. The only time I really love potato chips is with an egg salad sandwich.

hot from the kettle at Balto's Cross-Street Market? I'd (well I wouldn't kill but I'd) be a really mean person for one of those and when I get mean I can make nuns and sailors cry and guess who crumbles first.

yeah wow, I'd only had the packaged Utz (boring), but when I had the fresh I bought two, snarfed the first and slowly rationed the other for a day or two. and fondly recalled my grandmother telling me about the days when there were no commercial potato chips and how proud she was once making a bag to bring to a party as I strolled down from Federal Hill.
