went out to jordans and randazzo's today for seafood. at jordan's got three steamed lobsters (1 lb each) for $30 from the retail shop in the back and ate them on the picnic tables outside. fresh and tasty and lots of fun. although the other things ordered from the regular kitchen (some soup, some fried fish and fries) were pretty lackluster, as was the service and vibe. in fact, the lobster bisque was so bad that we returned it for some clam chowder (the new england was great, the manhattan tasted worse than progresso.) the guy at the counter said that lots of people have been complaining about the bisque ever since they stopped putting lobster in it back in november. go figure! seems like the thing to get there is just the lobster. and at that price, it's hard to beat.
then headed over to randazzo's. we'd never been there, but absolutely loved the place. also sat outside (although table service outside hasn't really started yet.) great, friendly service, and while we didn't try the lobster, we were blown away by everything else we got. raw oysters and little necks were fantastic, the fried calamari with hot sauce was out of this world and the pasta was pretty great. we'll definitely go back. prices weren't bad at all, especially given the location, the service and the taste. top marks.
finished up with some great gelato from villabate, i think that's what it's called, out on 18th and 71st. god, were we stuffed at the end of the day.
