Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins Redux

Ian | Jul 15, 200305:33 PM     6

A week or so ago, I inquired about so-called Jordan Marsh-style blueberry muffins, and received a number of helpful responses. (The link below will take you to my inquiry and the responses.) So I took a ride to Brockton to check them out. (The directions posted by Jpan were perfect. It took about 30 minutes from the Newton/Waltham area.) What I found when I got there was a delightful little bakery that features the famous Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins, but also a number of other delicious looking bakery items. I picked up a couple of dozen muffins for family members, and my three-year-old daughter and I got a couple of spinach and feta croissants to eat while we were there (I figured that was a little healthier for my daughter than most of their offerings). The croissants, which they heated for us in the microwave (eliminating any chance of being flaky or crusty), had a slight refrigerator taste to them but otherwise were quite tasty. The muffins, which we ate when we got home, were excellent, although I do not consider myself a blueberry muffin maven so I can't comment on how they compare to the competition. I guess my bottom line is that the place may be worth the trip for those looking to relive some old memories of eating the muffins in the tea room of the old Jordan Marsh. For the rest of us, it's probably not worth driving half an hour, but if you find yourself nearby, it's almost definitely worth checking out. By the way, the small front room into which you enter features a large picture window looking into the baking area, allowing you to see how immaculate it is.
