Jonathan Gold on Bay Area Chinese restaurants

Heads up for Bay Area chowhounds!

I'm a Los Angeles chowhound who lived in North Beach in a past life. One of our local public radio stations, KCRW, has a weekly program called Good Food, whose home page I've attached. (It includes audio of past programs, many of which may be of interest regardless of geography.) Yesterday's program included a segment with a restaurant reviewer named Jonathan Gold, who is (was?) based on Los Angeles and has written innumerable reviews of ethnic restaurants here as well as an excellent (but, ahem, insufficiently indexed and not-entirely-up-to-date) book of those reviews called "Counter Intelligence".

Well, this interview with Gold was about Chinese restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. He claims to have eaten at well over a hundred of them in an improbably short period, trying to figure out where the new centers of Chinese food are now that Chinatown and other areas in San Francisco proper have declined. The whole interview will probably be on the Web soon, but I'm mentioning it now while I'm thinking of it. Some of his discoveries sounded tremendous.
