John's Market;Kimchee & banchan & beef-oh my!

As mentioned in the Openings and Closings thread, John’s market, on Linden St at Brighton in Allston, opened for business about a month ago. GO!! NOW!!

This place is no longer a convenience store; it is a full-fledged Korean market. A huge meat counter, with fresh and marinated cuts. Two reefers full of store-made banchan and Kimchee; all great. So far, I’ve been chowing on radish kimchee, packed in Rubbermaid quarts, for $4.99, and for those who want fresh, as opposed to the jars brought in from NY, this is the real deal. So juicy and fresh tasting, and crunchy. Sautéed fishcake is a winner, so is the variety of marinated seeweed (kelp, with scallions and julienned radish) I’m gobbling down right now. I wasn’t thrilled with the Sweet potato stems, but I should have bought the fern instead; it was a mistaken identity on my part. No skate, but I bought some frozen mackerel, and lunch is luring me….
