Johnnie Brown's on the Ave in downtown Delray is now open. This is the site of the old "gas station dive" Elwood's.
I'm happy to report that the new owners wisely did not change much other than clean it up a ton and broaden the menu to appeal to a wider audience.
But in many respects it's still got the best of Elwoods. Casual atmosphere, live rock bands many nights, Elvis (Scott Ringerson) is back on Thursdays, same "open bar" in same location, etc. The table setup is much better than the old spot.
"Elvis" played to a packed house this past Thursday.
Prices are reasonable for typical casual restaurant with burgers, bbq, wings, salads etc.
I had the chicken wings yesterday and they were quite good. 10 wings were about 8 bucks and the good news is they were large and plump. (I still like Bru's hot/grilled the best but Bru's are often miniscule).
