Joe's Steak House - warning

François | Nov 28, 2001 09:48 PM

Last week. Lunch at Joe's on Stanley south of de Maisonneuve. Group of six. Disaster from start to finish.

Though generally reluctant to trash a spot based on a single meal, the circumstances in this case are exceptional, to whit: waiter quibbles with customer ("WHICH chicken do you want, there are several on the menu, you know"). Waiter forgets soup, delivers it with main course ("I'll just put it beside your plate"). Salad bar is anemic. A steak ordered "saignant" (rare) is just barely pink, as is one ordered well done. Meat, whatever the colour, is tasteless. French fries are standard issue greasy spoon frozen paste. Non-existent wine list. This place may be an institution, but that is never an excuse.

Apologies to you all for my rant, but the experience was so shockingly bad that I get riled just thinking it.

Proceed with extreme caution.

Mes hommages à vous tous.
