For the past year I've been obsessed with pizza. I'd really like to become an expert on New York City pizza. So far, my search has focused on Brooklyn, although I have yet to get to Bay Ridge or Sheepshead Bay. However, I've had the privilidge of enjoying Di Faro's and Tutoro's. Oh, and Grimaldi's which is o.k.
Yesterday I tried John's on Bleecker (Manhattan) and I was very disapointed. Too much cheese. An uninspiring sauce and a crust that tasted like a giant english muffin (but then also good in that way that english muffins always are so good). But anyway, afterwards I began to have a stream of conscience pizza experience. I passed Joe's next door which made me think of Joe's in Parkslope. Which made me think of last weeks thread on Joe's pizza. Which made me annoyed, because I was craving Joe's on 7th after having eating my too highly tooted english muffin pizza at John's.
Which made me think, for crying out loud, Joe's is actually a decent slice, because when you put slices down an a table, I'd eat Joe's again, while I'd never go back to John's (which is supposed to be "good pizza"). And all of this only emphasized to me that Joe's is a decent slice, when a slice is just a slice. The good standby when you can't trek to Coney Island or Midwood and you happen to live in Parkslope.
