Have been on a pizza quest of late - strictly by the slice. Finally tried DiFara's in Midwood and agree with those who think it's in a class of its own - simply spellbinding. Then I went back to Sal and Carmine's, my old fave on 101st and Broadway, and while they are certainly no DiFara, the pizza lived up to my memory - a damn good slice with particularly fantastic crust.
Tried Joe's on 6th and Bleeker today and totally don't get it. I mean, it was a serviceable slice, definitely not bad, but absolutely nothing special. Was it just a bad day? Are they not what they once were?
