I was rewarded this afternoon for some neighborly chauffeuring with lunch at Joe's in Venice and am, once again, inspired to laud his success. The relatively recent evolution of the added dining room and enhanced patio have weathered well into a seamless whole. The place has a great community feel and the service was friendly and helpful. For $15 each we had the special prix fixe three course lunch that began with a lovely tomato soup garnished with basil oil and baby shrimp. The entree included four jumbo scallos lightly seared served with wild arugula and a spicy red pepper coulis. We finished with a combo of two baby puff pastry filled with mango and berry sorbet respectively. All of this and three wonderful homemade breads with excellent tapenade and butter. Did I say $15? And Joe arrived back from the Wednesday Farmers' Market in time to inform us that he is now working with the Wine House in WLA, doing special dinners in their upstairs dining room. Still one of the best.
