Joe's Donuts in Sandy

Jill-O | Jul 19, 200203:38 PM

Had a guest and went to Mt. Hood for the first time. I remembered Jim Dixon posting about a place in Sandy on Rte 26 so I looked it up, it is Joe's Donuts. (BTW, he has a review up on his site at, it is the third to the last link on the reviews page)

First off, the coffee really sucked and that was a bummer. I have gotten used to great coffee here in the NW and I was disappointed by that. Overall, no big deal as you can get coffee elsewhere if you have to (we went looking for milk for Partner, ourselves).

The stuff behind the counter is great, though. I had the best apple fritter I have ever had in my life. It was fluffy and huge and not totally sickeningly sweet while still being sweet enough. Because we had guests we bought an assortment. The maple bars (think unfilled eclair with a think layer of maple frosting), chocolate bars, glazed ring donuts and chocolate-topped custard filled donuts - all made of that yeasty raised fluffy stuff were absolutely great. Krispy Kreme great or better (and if yo9u don't like KK, try this stuff anyway).

I am no huge fan of cake donuts, but they are good here too. A fan among us was rolling his eyes up in his head while eating one. They only had plain ones but went in back and dipped a few in chocolate for us. Good stuff that chocolate.

Thank you Jim Dixon for that great recommendation. I am glad that I do not ski and that I probably won't go by the place a lot. An addiction to this stuff could be seriously hazardous to my health!

If you are going past that way, stop for a fritter...or a donut...or a maple bar!! It is on the right, heading east on 26 in Sandy, OR - you can't miss the place it is a very noticeable little red and white building.
