We ate at both these BBQ places last weekend. Joe Cotton's on Hwy 77 at Robstown outside Corpus on the way to Nuevo Progreso- really outstanding beef ribs, brisket & sausage, about as good as the very best Central Texas fare. Next time we'll try the pork in the name of research. Only thing not-so-good was the potato salad which few seem to be able to do well (the usual inedible mustard mashed potato concoction). Joe Hinze has locations in Wharton (Hwy59) & Sealy (I-10). The service logistics at both locations sucks, always has for some reason, takes far too long to get your order, but the Q is pretty righteous, worth the wait. Pretty decent sides and the homemade pies and cobbler are a must if you have room. Regarding Nuevo Progreso, Arturo's and La Fonda were good as usual but the real fun was at the upstairs bar at La Galeria. The action starts early here, good for old timers like us who don't like to wait til 10:00PM for the band to crank up.
