Well, Elmhurst actually, I guess. Signs, menus, and business cards posted in Pacific Supermarket for Pho Binh, grand opening Friday, 40-? 74th St. This is just off Roosevelt, going south on 74th (for you non-locals, that's away from the famous Indian stretch of 74th, the other side of Roosevelt.)
From the corner of 74th & Roosevelt you can spot a big, red awning, with lettering looking a lot like Pho Bang's logo...hope they aim a lot higher with their cooking.
The menu looks like the commonly-seen job with the pastel colors and food photos. Some gratifying typos, for people with juvenile senses of humor like mine. One thing of note was their boast of a special dish of marinated meat, grilled right at the table. I thought that was more of a Korean thing - but seeing as how it's next door to a Korean-Japanese restaurant, maybe that's no accident.
No matter what crowd they're trying to draw, the proof of the Pho is in the tasting, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It looks promising, and Vietnamese coffee is on the menu, so right there it's happy news. If it's a good place, it will answer one of my chow prayers for the neighborhood. Hope to see some reports before long - I'm going to give it a few days after it opens.
