jerry's wood fired dogs - a quick review

A while back there was a thread about places to buy a good hot dog and i was surprised to read that there was a hot dog "stand" in santa ana near my old neighborhood - i decided next time i was in the area, i would stop by for a dog. went to jerry's on 17th st in santa ana ( it's close to the city of tustin and orange )

i had the combo with jerry's signature dog - it cost $7 and it included the dog, homemade chips or french fries and a large drink - you order the dog plain and then once it's cooked, they call you up so you can pick from a list of condiments that they'll put on the dog for you - i choose the cleveland mustard, chipotle mayo , grilled onions, grilled peppers and relish ...a mistake by me.

the tables have small buckets of peanuts that you can munch on while you wait - i ordered my food to go. got the bag went out to my car - decided i need to take a look at the dog - 1st thing that jumped out at me was how small the hot dog was. i couldn't resist, i took a bite, which lead to me wolfing down the whole dog - the mistake i made - i put so much stuff on the dog, that i could not tell how high the quality of the dog was - it did taste good with all the stuff i put on it - the mustard was excellent. i took a sip of my drink and got a laugh out of the little comments that they put on the cup -one was - you should eat your hot dog in 5 bites - easy to do with the size of the dog they give you

the potato chips were decent -

i gotta go back and try one of the dogs plain so i can get a true taste of the dog - this might be hard to do since i like the condiment options they give you and that's part of the fun of eating a hot dog. given the size, maybe i'll get one plain and one packed....we'll see.

overall, a place i would visit 3-4 times a year when i'm hankering for a hot dog.
