Jerk chicken tasting-- a proposal

Beth P. | Sep 10, 200111:59 AM

Jerk chicken is one of my favorite things. And ever since my all-time favorite place (in Portchester in Westchester County) stopped making it as spicy as I like, I've been hurting. I try other versions here and there (most recently at Mo-Bay [112 Dekalb Ave, Brooklyn] where it scored well on the heat index, but otherwise wasn't super flavorful, though the sides were fabulous), but I feel like I'm groping in the dark.

So... I'm wondering if there any interest in doing a jerk chicken blind tasting, similar to what L.A. did for barbecue. I suspect that the greatest concentration of restaurants serving good jerk is in Brooklyn, so it would make sense to start there (but someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I figure we need about 10 people willing to pick up jerk, a central Brooklyn (and/or Queens and/or Bronx) location and a likely date and time. I'd offer my place, but I live in Manhattan. I'll bring a few gallons of my homemade ginger brew as well as a jerk pick.

Anyone interested?
