I wasn't sure if this should be on Home Cooking or General Topics.
I posted about Jeni's ice cream a little over a week ago on FB so some of you have seen this.
Over a year ago I read some good reviews on Jeni's Ice Cream cookbook, I ordered it and her dessert book too. When reading them and seeing that her recipes called for cream cheese and cornstarch I just shelved the books.
I was grocery shopping and was looking for ice cream and noticed that Kroger had started carrying it and thought okay give it a try. I bought a pint each of Vanilla and Dark Chocolate at $9.99 @ My thought was if one can't make a good batch of either then forget it.
When I got it home I had to taste it right away. Wow! It is some of the best commercially made ice cream I have ever had. The depth of flavor was fabulous as was the mouth feel. We went through it fairly quickly and I decided to make her vanilla ice cream. It was terrific and the only thing different from her vanilla was vanilla beans. She has some Ugandan bean which we can't get in the US. I used Penzy's Mexican vanilla bean. My batch had a more vanilla profile. I need to make another recipe this week. Time to get out the book.
