The Jean Banchet Awards finalists were announced today. Unlike Michelin (which often is melodramatic as so little changes year-to-year) with the Jean Banchet Awards we are guaranteed to have four local restaurants/bars/people recognized in each category every year. I think the list of nominees this year is fantastic and is an excellent reference for out-of-towners considering venues to check-out. The awards cover a nice variety of venues (fine dining to cheap eats) and areas of the city (even a handful of suburban venues). Of course one thing to keep in mind is that many other good venues are not on the list due to winning in recent previous years (i.e. Boka comes to mind as a favorite of mine and others on this board - no nominees this year, but during the past 2-3 years they have won several categories). Grace also won a bunch of categories a few years back and is not on anything this year.

I attended the award ceremony/party the last couple of years and it is such a fun, well run event (and benefits a great cause - Cystic Fibrosis Foundation); highly recommend attending. Below are links for information on buying tickets to the award ceremony and an article about this years' nominees. Congratulations to all the nominees!
