Jay Bee's BBQ in OC

LBQT | Feb 9, 200304:45 PM

A couple of nights ago, I picked up a couple of dinners to go from Jay Bee's BBQ in Cypress. I could smell luscious smokiness from a couple of blocks away, even with the windows rolled up, so I had high hopes. I was not disappointed. Memphis BBQ is very much alive and well in OC.

We sampled pork and beef ribs, and a beef link. The rib dinners came with two sides, and a choice of hot, medium, or mild sauce. We chose the bbq beans, greens, and potato salad. When we opened the boxes at home, we couldn't believe the size of the portions. Two dinners had at least enough meat to feed four. The pork ribs were meaty, and succulently delicious - cooked perfectly, so that the meat literally fell from the bones. Not oversauced, either. The beef ribs were very meaty, and also tender and sauced to perfection. The medium bbq sauce was a bit too hot for my taste, but very tasty nonetheless. The beef link was served in slices in a cup of bbq sauce - spicy and bursting with smoky juiciness. My daughter declared the beans the best she'd ever eaten. The greens were delicious as well, fresh tasting and not soggy. Potato salad was good also. Served with the requisite slices of white bread for mopping up the sauce.

Jay Bee's is a little store front place in a strip mall. Wood for smoking is stacked right by the cashier, so you know they mean business. I'd put this in a class with Woody's or Philips. They also have a place in Gardena.
