Had been wanting to go to Jardiniere for a very long time. Finally had the chance this past Saturday night. I wanted to love it. And was disappointed. Lovely room, terrific service. But the food was only good, nothing to knock anyone's socks off. Starter: tombo tuna--lots of different parts, nothing spoke eloquently, wanted it to be memorable, and it just wasn't. Ditto w/ my husbands scallops. Tasted the lamb and lentil soup of the person sitting next to me--boring. The duck liver mousse (ordered by another member of our party) was great--really the only stand-out of the evening. The waiter recommended the venison. It was tender and pretty and cooked just right (medium rare). But again, no music. Ditto w/ my husband's chicken. Tasted the short ribs of someone else at our table--a signature dish. Thought it was fine, but no fireworks. Desserts were even more underwhelming: falled chocolate souffle was dry and kind of dull, mejool date and pinenut tart uninteresting, and the mixed platter of cookies and pot de creme was so-so. Maybe it's lost some luster (I'd wondered why we didn't have a very hard time getting a reservation on not a lot of notice)--or it was an off night--or (my husband might offer a knowing nod) I'm too hard to please.
