Jar last night

Thanks to posters on this board and my curiosity, I was taken by a friend here in the valley who wanted to reciprocate a dinner for all the driving I have done in getting him to and fro local airports for the past 2 months.
Well, Jar was the selection, and we went last night at 7:00. Neither had been before.
What a nice room first of all. No expectations that it would be that confortable, and urbanely stylish in brown tones. Had one of the deuces around the corner from the hostess stand in that semi-enclosed nook area.
Secondly, what a great menu, with more items to eat than time, money, or hunger would permit.
Ended up sharing the black mussels app, which was a perfect order accompanied with perfect broth. Could have made that an entree by myself.
Then on to the kurobuta pork shank for me, and the dry aged KC strip for him, and a side of the brussels sprouts, all of which were truly wonderful. That pork shank was huge and I even offered a taste to the gorgeous couple sitting next to us, much less to my companion, and still had plenty left over for me.
He ordered a chocolate pudding dessert and I ordered nothing as the menu looked very uninteresting, with only the apple crisp of any interest, and I make a mean one here, so that was not of that big an interest. However, the waiter did not mention the special butterscotch pudding which I would have ordered, yet the couple next to us did mention as they departed. Would you believe they paid for my dessert and sent it to me once they had departed the building. Good and rich and dark in color. No wimpy butterscotch here. If they are readers of this board, many thanks.
Had two glasses of Arrowwood pinot, rather than getting a bottle, as he started with grey goose rocks, and is a wine lightweight thereafter, especially since he was driving.
Scanning the list, however, yielded total agreement with assessments of others as to its value and quality. Eight Gigondas' on any list - come on, who would have guessed! 2 x retail appears to be the markup. Argentinian malbec for $155 and another for $200! They obviously are getting the right goods in. Just hope they are selling them in sufficient quantities to warrant continuing that policy.
Over all, would go back tonight, especially if someone else was buying - and maybe even if I was paying, LOL!
Thanks for the previous recommendations by others. Will have to return soon, with wine being the only beverage option!
