Have been recently dipping our toes, so to speak, into Japanese food beyond sushi (Truth be told we have not exhausted that subject by any means). So we've been to several Izakayas in Manhattan. Just today, in the East Village, we had a bite at Otafuku, on e. 9th st. It is more a street food operation altho it is a store front but has no seating. We ordered their combo "A" which was Yakisoba and Okonomi. The first is listed as seafood fried noodle ( on the line of a lo-mein dish) and the latter was a shredded cabbage pancake topped with shreds of bacon like pork, and a hoisin-style sauce topped with Mayo. All in all, a really interesting combo snack.
So here' s my question. Are there any Izakayas and Otafuku type places in Queens? Given how the Chowhounds know areas such as Flushing and Jackson Heights for Chinese and Indian so well , I'm hoping some might shed some light on these kinds of Japanese. Thanks for any input.
