japanese food hounds: Mitsuwa Tsukemono set - what a find!

Wanshu | Jul 16, 200508:20 PM

hi Hounders
I went shopping at Mitsuwa Market (Centinela & Venice) this aft. They have a sale going on with lots of good stuff (especially if you're partial to Japanese junk food and sweets).

Anyway, over in the "pickled things" section they have these Tsukemono Sets for $20. It's basically a grocery bag filled with 8 different pickley items. Mine had pickled plums, 2 types of diakon (bonito and sweet), picked shallots, pickled garlic with shiso, pickled melon, burdock, and fresh pickled eggplant - all different brands.

Normally, each of these items cost somewhere between $4-$8, so 8 of these items for $20 is quite a deal.

If you like pickely Japanese things, get over there! The best part is, though i would normally buy a few of these things (i love burdock, pickled plums and diakon), some of them I've never tried before, so it's super fun.

eat well!
