Japanese for the fish-impaired

Have been getting such great answers here, I'll now ask for an update (recall that I've been gone for years) on "untrendy" Japanese food in town. Do we have any teriyaki takeouts as on the west coast? Any good place to get a tonkatsu?

Seems to me that when I was here, we had 5 choices: Genji, a pretentious and overpriced - but fun - place on Newbury. Roka, a supermarket next door with a small lunch counter. Something in Harvard Sq. (branch of Roka?). Something else in Harvard Sq. with an Indian-sounding name (Ashoka?). And a pseudo-Korean BBQ place (Kabuki?) in Central Sq.

After that it was all "Benihana this" and "Bisuteki that". If I'm going that route, I'd rather be at Genji.

But of course I'd RATHER rather be at Roka. So what's the current status - any/all of them still there? Any places similar?

Suburban also desired.
