japanese abalone

I had japanese abalone at Murasaki two nights ago. It was crisp and refreshing. It was served with sweet tasting mirugai clam and hamachi sashimi on a bed of seaweeds. Also the most delicious albacore tuna I've had in ages (full of fat! and much cheaper than toro -- which we couldn't resist indulging in as well).

Among the more unususal items we had were creamy fried ankimo, beef stewed for six hours in sweet soy sauce, salted squid guts, and these flat eggroll type things filled with mashed potato and sweet shrimp.
